Grand Master, Shaolin monk of the 31st generation, Shi De Yang is globally considered one of the greatest present exponents of traditional Shaolin culture.
Disciple of Shi Suxi for almost 30 years, Shi De Yang is one of few Shaolin Masters of recent generations to have studied in a profound manner all ‘three treasures of Shaolin’ (Chan, Wugong, traditional medicine). This traditional knowledge, aptitude to studying and teaching, exceptional martial abilities and philosophical vision, have allowed him to have some of the more prominent roles in the Temple, from head of the warrior monks to history researcher, from philosophy teacher to director of traditional Kung Fu WuShu studies.
Books and documentaries have been made about him, however despite the international fame Shi De Yang continues to reside in the Shaolin temple, absorbed in his studies and teaching. To the activities at the Temple Shi De Yang has for some years added the management of his external school, which welcomes about one hundred young students, often very poor, to whom he offers a study program that includes Kung Fu WuShu and Chan.
Shi De Yang has also conducted numerous international teaching and demonstration tours to promote Shaolin culture. He regularly travels to Europe and America to visit his Shaolin brothers now living abroad, and collaborates with various schools. Shi De Yang is ‘technical and spiritual guide’ of the school Shaolin Wuseng Houbeidui – Europe (Italy), the only official international branch of his Shaolin school, managed by his disciples Shi Xing Mi and Shi Xing Cang.

Read more

I have been a bit remiss in blogging due to an overabundance of work and responsibilities. But I wanted to post up some notes from my second week of wushu training with the Shaanxi Wushu Team before it completely skips my mind. (I’m actually coming up on the end of the third week as I write this, but first things first.) Via narom.net

After that first practice, I made my way back to the wushu hall and got there a bit early. I had only worked out once so far so the soreness hadn’t hit me yet. This time the nanquan group (about 5 of us) worked out on the far carpet. Lots of nanquan basics. It seems that this group had been given the directive to just work on tons of basics since they had recently switched over from changquan to nanquan. I certainly need the basics work so I joined in doing as much as I could. Read more
HANOI – The combat sports of sanshou and muay has also assured the Philippines of another silver and three more bronze medals in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games when competition began late Wednesday night.
Rhea May Rifani defeated hometown bet Nguyen Thuy Ngan, for a 2-1 decision in sanshou-wushu’s 52-kg division at the Trinh Hoai Duc Gymnasium.
Tied at 1-1 after two rounds, Rifani got the much needed point in the third as the sanshou bet from Benguet pushed Nguyen off the ring.
“This is a sweet win for me because she defeated me when we fought in the 2004 Asian Championships,” said a crying Rifani. Read more
