Beijing 2008 Wushu tournament kicks off

Wushu, also called martial arts, a non-Olympic but Chinese traditional sport, made a shinning appearance on Thursday in Beijing where the 29th Olympic Games is going on.

The four-day Beijing 2008 Wushu Tournament, which attracts 128 athletes from 43 countries and regions, kicked off at the Beijing Olympic Sports Center where some Olympic handball matches had been held. Read more

Wushu tournament to be held during Beijing Olympic Games

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The Beijing 2008 Wushu Tournament will be held from Aug. 21 to 24 during the Olympic Games, a Wushu official announced here Tuesday afternoon.

Wang Xiaolin, Secretary General of International Wushu Federation (IWUF) and President of Chinese Wushu Association, said at a press conference at the Olympic main press center that 128 athletes from 43 countries and regions will attend the tournament.

He elaborated that 28 athletes are from Europe, 14 from America, seven from Africa, two from Oceania and 77 from Asia. Read more

Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon. Welcome to today’s press conference. The topic for today is Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008. Our guests are: Wang Xiaolin, secretary general of International Wushu Federation (IWUF), president of Chinese Wushu Association, director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport; Wang Yulong, chairman of Technical Committee of IWUF, vice president of Chinese Wushu Association; Chen Guorong, chairman of Technical Committee of Wushu Federation of Asia, vice president of Chinese Wushu Association; Jin Xiaobing, competition director of Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008; Li Yuqi, deputy director & general secretary of Olympic Sports Center Precinct; and Wu Zhaoyang, deputy venue manager(Media) of Olympic Sports Center Operational Team.
