Wushu Day in Spain – Día de Wushu en España

Read more

Weekly Wushu Recap (10/23-31)

I have been a bit remiss in blogging due to an overabundance of work and responsibilities.  But I wanted to post up some notes from my second week of wushu training with the Shaanxi Wushu Team before it completely skips my mind.  (I’m actually coming up on the end of the third week as I write this, but first things first.) Via narom.net

October 23 (Friday)

After that first practice, I made my way back to the wushu hall and got there a bit early.  I had only worked out once so far so the soreness hadn’t hit me yet.  This time the nanquan group (about 5 of us) worked out on the far carpet.  Lots of nanquan basics. It seems that this group had been given the directive to just work on tons of basics since they had recently switched over from changquan to nanquan.  I certainly need the basics work so I joined in doing as much as I could. Sanshou, muay hope to contribute in RP’s medal haul

HANOI – The combat sports of sanshou and muay has also assured the Philippines of another silver and three more bronze medals in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games when competition began late Wednesday night.

Rhea May Rifani defeated hometown bet Nguyen Thuy Ngan, for a 2-1 decision in sanshou-wushu’s 52-kg division at the Trinh Hoai Duc Gymnasium.

Tied at 1-1 after two rounds, Rifani got the much needed point in the third as the sanshou bet from Benguet pushed Nguyen off the ring.

“This is a sweet win for me because she defeated me when we fought in the 2004 Asian Championships,” said a crying Rifani.

Chinese volunteers in Tunisia: messengers of friendship

TUNIS, NOV. 5 (Xinhua) — Tunisia residents often can see Chinese volunteers, with a red star and a big word “volunteer” on their jackets, busily working.

China started to send young volunteers to the North Africa country in 2008 after the two nations reached an agreement at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in Beijing in 2006.

There were only six volunteers on the first team, mainly teaching wushu, dancing and Chinese to Tunisians. Local people’s enthusiasm for Chinese culture and art encouraged the Tunisian government to ask China to double the number of Chinese volunteers in the second team, including table tennis coaches. Recently the Tunisian government again asked to increase the number of Chinese volunteers in the third dispatch.

Wushu is one of the favorite sports among Tunisians. China’s wushu volunteers totally devoted themselves to teaching after they arrived in Tunisia, helping its national team sweep eight gold medals at the Maghreb National Wushu Competition. Read more

Abdominal tips with Wushu

STRENGTH ::

The many stances of Wushu build leg and care muscle ( abdominal & lower back ) strength and the necessity of holding poses while training builds strong stabilizing muscles much the same way you would. Weapons practice works like weight bearing exercises, to build good arm and back strength as well. A Wushu practitioner who practice his/her art on a regular basis, with no other supplemental exercise programme, develop a lean toned muscular look similar to that of a dancer. Read more

Wushu: Faster, Higher and Stronger

What do you think of when you think of martial arts? There’s so many different types right? “But If you like watching Chinese movies with people jumping over walls, doing splits, kicking bullets, then wushu is the way to go!” That is what my friend Dennis Ta always tells me.

For a while now I have always wanted to take on wushu because there is so much more to it. It is about honor and holds certain values and standards that typical sports do not present. Read more
