Student dies during Wushu Competition

A student of the D.S. Senanayake College in Colombo has succumbed to his injuries sustained during a Wushu competition held in the Sri Lanka capital.

Police said that seventeen-year-old Pasidu Hasanka Jayawickreme was seriously injured, when he was hit by his opponent at the event.

Later he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

This is the second death reported due to this form of martial arts sport in Sri Lanka. Madura Weerasinghe a student of Kamburawala Maha Vidyalaya in Baduraliya died last November due to internal injuries suffered during a competition.
